What Is Sarcina Ureae?
Sarcina ureae is a type of bacteria that is related to the genus Bacillus. This bacteria is aerobic, motile, spore-forming, and gram-positive. It can commonly be found in soil. It has the ability to grow in relatively high concentrations of urea, hence its name. It has also been found to exist and grow when environmental conditions get unfavorable, remaining viable for up to a year.
History of Sarcina Eureae
This bacteria was originally found in the early 1900s in soil by Dutch microbiologist Martinus Beijerinck. In 1911, Lohnis proposed a name change from Planosarcina ureae to Sarcina ureae, which is its current name. In 1973, there were over 50 strains of this bacteria isolated by Pregerson from numerous soil samples from all over the world. It was ascertained that it was more prevalent where dogs and humans were highly active.
Symptoms of Diseases Caused By Sarcina Ereae
Sarcina ureae is not considered to be pathogenic to any known organism on Earth, including humans. However, it has been isolated using a bronchial biopsy of a child that already had cystic fibrosis. Thankfully, it was quickly determined that the existence of this bacteria within the child had nothing to do with the child’s cystic fibrosis or any symptoms they were experiencing.
Still, if someone with a weakened immune system becomes infected with this bacteria, it may be possible that they will feel fatigued and have muscle weakness. However, this is extremely rare and not a cause for concern.
How You Can Treat Sarcina Ureae
Since Sarcina ureae does not lead to any disease or negative symptoms, it is unnecessary to treat anything. However, as with all bacteria, it is possible to kill it using antibiotics if you were to choose to do so.
To prevent this bacterial infection, wash your hands after going to the bathroom, as well as prior to handling food. Avoid close contact with anyone who is infected until at least 48 hours until they are cured.
There are other preventative measures you can take, which include the following:
- Keep your kitchen clean at all times.
- Wash your hands before preparing any food, after touching animals, and before eating.
- Wash all food and produce you will be preparing to eat.
- Drink bottled water when in developing nations.
The cure for Sarcina ereae involves taking antibiotics to stamp out its presence within the body. The use of a combination of antibiotics can help very effectively.
